Stephen Ray “Steve” Long, 68, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 10:27 a.m., at his residence.
Steve was born September 30, 1957, in Seymour, the son of the late Ralph Sr. and Mary (Stinson) Long. He married Cynthia Everhart on March 12, 1997, in North Vernon. He was a 1976 graduate of Jennings County High School, where he went to State as a wrestler. Steve was a US veteran of the Army National Guard. Steve worked for Jen Acres in North Vernon for twenty years and retired from RR Donelly printing company of Seymour in 2012, after fifteen years as an assistant printer. Steve was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge in North Vernon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing his grass, and both watching and playing sports. Steve was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Reds.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy; daughter, Rana (Isaiah) Wilds of North Vernon; stepson, Whitey (Geri) Durham of Hayden; stepdaughter, Crystal Durham of Greensburg; brothers, Ralph (Leah) Long Jr. of Monon, David (Sherry) Long of Seymour, and Gary (Carol) Stinson of Scipio; sister, Sheila (Dan) Adams of North Vernon; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Nikki Long.
A funeral service for Stephen will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Dan Adams officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Steve through the funeral home to The American Cancer Society or Hospice of Jennings County.
