Private Brandon Drew Carbajal, 39, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in North Vernon.
Born March 31, 1987, in Seymour, he was the son of Jalie (Couch) Carbajal of North Vernon.
Brandon was a 2006 graduate of Jennings County High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 2006 to 2009 in the 3/3 ACR in L Troop, Thunder Squadron. While Private Carbajal was deployed in Iraq, he was wounded twice and was a recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. He attended First Assembly of God in North Vernon. Brandon was an operator at NTN Drive Shaft in Columbus. He was a very giving person who loved his country and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Brandon’s hobbies included video games, fishing, and playing chess with his grandpa.
Survivors include his mother, Jalie; sister, Rachel Carbajal of New York; grandparents, Billy and Drucilla Perkins of North Vernon; aunt, Rella Couch Herche; nieces, Jaella Babcock, and Brynlee Wellman; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Rellie Turner and his cousin Tori Herche.
A funeral service for Brandon will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery in Westport, Indiana.
Memorials may be made in honor of Brandon through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
