Mary Joetta Ebbing, 70, of Scipio, passed away at 9:33 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Aspen Place in Greensburg.
Born December 30, 1955, in Seymour, Mary Jo was the daughter of the late Byford and Ruth (Skinner) Bowman. She married Thomas Jerome Ebbing, Sr. on February 13, 1978, in Fairborn, Ohio; he preceded her in death on August 24, 2003.
Mary Jo was a devoted homemaker and worked in housekeeping at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for many years. She was known for being direct but never mean. Honest, but always caring. She had a gift for making people laugh and smile on difficult days, and you always knew where you stood with her. She never met a holiday she couldn’t make magical, often preparing a huge meal for every family gathering in her home. She took great pride in making sure everyone left with a full stomach and a smile. Mary also loved working on puzzles, sitting on her front porch on a beautiful day, and filling her kitchen with music from a radio turned up as loud as it would go. Above all else, she cherished being a grandmother and took great joy in spoiling her grandchildren. She truly loved her grandchildren “to the moon and back.”
Though her memory faded in her final years, the memories she created for those who loved her never will. Her smile, laughter, and the warmth she brought to everyone will always be remembered.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas “T.J.” (Bobbi) Ebbing, Jr. of Greensburg and Patrick Ebbing of North Vernon; loved as a daughter, Becca Henn; brothers, Danny (Terry) Bowman, Harry (Pam) Bowman, Mark Bowman, and Bruce Bowman; sisters, Judy (Bill) Anderson, Barbara (Jack) Meade, Patty (Keith) Pratt; grandchildren, Colton Ebbing, Caitlin (Ethan) Mathews, Bailey Ebbing, Casey Ebbing, Mackenzie Ebbing, and Carly Ebbing; and great-grandchildren, Oliver and Henry Mathews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, and from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The funeral service for Mary will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. Burial will be at the Scipio Cemetery.
