Martha Janice (Tyra) Davies

Martha Janice Davies, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:18 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Autumn Trace in North Vernon.

Born February 5, 1938, in Campton, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Adah (Wood) Tyra. She married William Dale “Bill” Davies on January 27, 1968, in Friendship; he preceded her in death on February 22, 2022.

Martha was a 1957 graduate of Cross Plains High School and was a farmer and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon and sang in the church choir and for weddings and funerals. She also served on the kitchen and decorating committee at the church. Martha was a seamstress, and enjoyed growing a garden, canning, flowers, and was known for her cookies. She was also known for being a good listener, mentoring the younger people at church, always being a very positive person and giving treats to her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Dale T. (Tracy) Davies of North Vernon; daughters, Denice Jane (Eric) Davies-Scott of Salem, and Fay Ann McNicholas of North Vernon; grandchildren, Zane (Payge) Scott of Salem, Andrea (Tyler Morgan) Scott of Fort Wayne, Micheal (Jessica) McNicholas, of North Vernon, William “Billy” (Calli) McNicholas of Ellettsville, Jeremiah (Rachel) McNicholas of Chicago, Illinois, Noah (Sierra) Davies of North Vernon, Kaitlyn (Tharan Smith) Davies of Scottsburg, Cody (Kayla) St John of North Vernon; and Wyatt (Morgan) St John of Cambridge City; and great grandchildren, Harmony McNicholas, Austin McNicholas, and Ana McNicholas, all of North Vernon, and Calvin “CJ” McNicholas, Danny McNicholas, and Jameson McNicholas, all of Ellettsville, Ricky Joe Davies and Easton St John, both of North Vernon, and Gracelynn St John of Cambridge City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Oneda Fay Anderson; son-in-law, Jeffrey McNicholas; and grandson, Randall Scott.

A funeral service for Martha will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Friday at the Church. The burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
