Joshua David Warren, 31, passed away surrounded by loved ones in Florida on Monday, May 11th, 2026.
Josh was born on October 11th, 1994, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. He grew up in North Vernon close to his large family. He was especially adored by all of his grandparents, some who let Josh practice driving in the driveway as a toddler. A persistent child, he never went anywhere without his pacifier and refused to eat if there was an ash tray on the table. He was ahead of his time.
He participated in baseball, wrestling, and football throughout his childhood and adolescence, graduating from Jennings County High School in 2013. When accepting his diploma, Josh surprised then- principal Tim Taylor by embracing him warmly on the stage. No doubt, Josh was a spirited student who spent time in the principal’s office. But his great talent was making others laugh to dissolve tension.
In 2017, Josh enlisted in the United States Army and served 2 years. He then moved to Florida where his grandparents delighted in caring for him and making sure, he never went hungry. He trained as a heavy equipment operator and was a skilled driver, likely thanks to his early practice as a toddler.
Josh loved the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Adam Sandler, National Lampoon movies, and watching martial arts, especially with friends. He will always be remembered for his smart sense of humor and distinctly passionate point of view.
Josh sought to make sense of the world and understand his place in it. He had an instinctual urge to help strangers with food, money, and transportation. His family eventually banned him from picking-up hitchhikers.
More than anything, Josh loved and was deeply loyal to his family and friends. He is forever proud of their accomplishments and all of those to come.
He is survived by his father, David Warren; mother, Dixie (Kirkham) Filek, and stepfather, Chad Filek; brothers, Troy (Sonya) Aguirre and Ben Filek; sisters, Lauren Filek (Dylan Cuevas), Jada (Chase) Ketcham, Karma Warren (Zaydun Sharp), Brookley Warren (Landen Balckburn), Olivia Filek, and Kassidy Warren; grandfather, Robert “Bob” Kirkham, bonus-grandmother, Phyllis (Carnine) Kirkham, grandfather, David Warren Sr, and grandmother, Ronnie (Vance) Warren; uncle, James “Eric” Kirkham; aunts, Justina (Miller) Petro, Angie (Cagle) Kirkham, Tammy (Rodney) Boggs, Lois Kirkham; niece, Adaylnn; nephews, Gunner, Theo, and Ridge; and girlfriend, Makenzie Legg, in addition to many cousins and loved ones around the world.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Lou (Lakins) Kirkham.
A funeral service will be held for Josh at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Monday, May 18th, 2026, at 11a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday May 17th, 2026, from 2-6p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
