Jeffery Nelson Leonard

Jeffery Nelson Leonard, 63, of North Vernon, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his residence.

Born on November 13, 1963, in Seymour, he was the son of Alwyna Jay Horton Leonard and the late Robert Lee Leonard Sr.

Jeffery was a 1982 graduate of Jennings County High School and had worked for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, as a DST for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, animals and his pets.

Survivors include his son, Jesse Leonard of North Vernon; his mother, Alwyna Leonard of North Vernon; brothers, Robert (Frances) Leonard Jr. of North Vernon and Kevin (Kathie) Leonard of Seymour; nephews, Josh (Melissa) Leonard, Scottie Leonard, and Casey Leonard, all of North Vernon; nieces, Kayla (Anthony) Rushing of Salem, Audra Laudermilt and Addie (Travis) Redicker, both of North Vernon and great-nephew, Kaedon Leonard.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In keeping with his and his family’s wishes cremation if planned with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Memorials may be made in honor of Jeffery through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
