James Ernest “Jim” Strickland, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Born March 31, 1937, in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Cecil L. and Glenna G. (Wadsworth) Strickland.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of North Vernon High School. He served in the Army National Guard from 1954 to 1958. Jim worked as a truck driver for Global Van Lines for four years, and as a limousine driver in both Florida and Colorado. He worked at Arvin in both North Vernon and Columbus, spanning nine years. James was also a Cummins employee for nine years. He loved all music and sang in a gospel quartet. He enjoyed reading and learning the bible.
He is survived by his sons, Glenn (DavAnna) Strickland of North Vernon, Bryan Strickland of Largo, Florida, Kevin (Cathy) Strickland of Chicago, Illinois, Jimmy Strickland of Greenback Tennessee, and Dennis (Cindy) Strickland of New Albany; good friends, Anna Morris of Florida and Paul Mayhugh of North Vernon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd Strickland and Lewis Strickland; sisters, Irma Gresham and Nettie Noel.
The funeral service for Jim will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service, in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be made in honor of Jim through the funeral home towards the family’s expenses.
