Ernest Lee Jayne

Ernest Lee Jayne, 76, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his residence.

Born September 8, 1949, in Greensburg, he was the son of the late David S. and Betty E. (Giddenings) Jayne. He married Patricia Skaggs on November 14, 1998, in Scipio; she survives.

Ernest was a 1968 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army. He had worked as a custodian for Jennings County High School for four years and had also worked for Martinrea in North Vernon for 36 years. Ernest enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, building things, yardwork, and all things outdoors.

Surviving with his wife, Patricia is his daughter, Christinia (Richard Koons) Jayne of Scipio; grandchildren, Dustin Koons and Shatalina Pennycuff, both of North Vernon, Kristian Koons of Greenwood, Kirsten (Jon) Ford of Sellersburg, and Kameron (Emily) Jayne; and great-grandchildren, Addison Koons, Rosalina Koons, Ryker Koons, and Joesph Best, all of North Vernon, and Penelope Ford of Sellersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Jayne; and sisters, Nancy Parker and Mary Hall.

Private family visitation will be held at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Ernest through the funeral home for expenses.
