David E. Smith, 76, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at his residence.
Born July 9, 1950, in Glasgow, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William G and Sarah C. (Abner) Smith.
David worked concrete and construction for Repp and Mundt in Columbus for 35 years. He enjoyed rabbit and coon hunting, training dogs and horses, horse trading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sons, David E. (Kristy) Smith II of Columbus; his significant other, Kathy Stringer of North Vernon; brothers, William H. (Ruby Diane) Smith of Greensburg, Kentucky and Ronnie L. (Amy) Smith of Columbus; sisters, Mary L. (Coy) Sluder of Campbellsville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Brandon Dunbar and Kayla Dunbar, both of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gilliam B. and Michael L. Smith; sisters, Ruby F. Rafferty and Lorrie A. Crouch; and niece April Dawn Stephens.
The funeral service for David will be at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Bobby Leahigh officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.
