Christopher Joseph “C.J.” Johnson, 53, passed away at 7:17 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Born June 3, 1973, in Barren County, Kentucky, he was the son of Lisa (Bertram) Johnson and the late Randy Johnson.
C.J. was a high school graduate and attended one year of college. He was employed as a body shop mechanic for T & T Body Shop and Auto Rental in Seymour. C.J. enjoyed playing softball, fishing, going to concerts and kayaking.
Survivors include his son, Tristen Johnson of North Vernon; his daughters, Shelbie (Thomas) Amburgey of Lexington and Elia Gatewood of Westport; his mother, Lisa Johnson of North Vernon; brother, Jason (Dena) Johnson of Columbus; sister, Jennifer (Mark) Curts of Underwood; grandchild, Brealynn Johnson of Holton; nieces and nephews, Cloey Abner, Bryce (Narrisa) Abner, Kiptyn Johnson and Mavys Johnson, all of Columbus, Jason Shuey of Tampa Florida, Teagen Johnson of Underwood, Madyson Manning of North Vernon and Lydia Manning of Jonesville; and great-nieces, Iris Abner and Adeline Abner, both of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents and great-grandparents.
A funeral service for C.J. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Dove- Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The burial will follow in the Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of C.J. to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
