Alma Joann Cook, 74, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at her residence.
Born October 30, 1951, in Columbia, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Pauline Elizabeth (Barton) McAnelly.
Alma was a supervisor for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for several years. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, and sewing.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Brooke) Cook of North Vernon; brothers, Robert Lee McAnelly of Columbus, Jasper Thomas McAnelly of Virginia, Bill (Pam) McAnelly of Columbus, and Greg White of Nashville; sister, Brenda Ward of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and grandchildren, Evelyn Cook of North Vernon, Robbie Cook of New Albany and Landon Chalut of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Sebert and James “Pete” McAnelly; and sister, Dorothy Baker.
A funeral service for Alma will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
